Checking the level of Awareness and Social Acceptability of PwID: A visit to Big Bazar Jalandhar

In the current scenario, where many NGOs have been into existence and many vocational centers are working for this community, the question arises how much they are aware of their rights and amenities and also most importantly, how well they are treated in the society, and well accepted by the society in general. What level of ignorance they face in real life. 
Also, it's not only children who face such issues, there are people of every age bracket under this community and certainly these issues are supposed to be addressed and checked.
For this purpose, we picked up the NGO Chaanan Association of MR Children, where not only children but also people of upper age bracket are also trained in their vocational centre .
A Big Bazar visit was planned for the community of NGO, with the purpose of checking the level of their awareness and also the response of society towards them. The visit was accompanied by the faculty members dealing them, and also parents of few of them and in total 12 volunteers. A sneak peek to the same is shown below:

The major findings from the same were:
* The community people are very shy owning to the fact that they were not communicating to staff in case of any doubt, rather they were approaching their faculties and volunteers from NGO. Development is required on that note.
* They need to be aware that means they should be educated on the ground that they can be able to determine the price of products and also they should be aware of basic market conditions so that they shouldn't be fooled.
* The nature and approach of society towards them needs to be changed, people watch these people like they are aliens and they ignore at the same time, so the society should change their mentality towards them and with a broad mindset should approach them.
* One thing appreciated here is the role of volunteers who took this issue and addressed it and also other people that were working over there showed a well behaved attitude towards them.

Building an ecosystem for the learning of PwID

Broadly these are the following sources of learning for PwID: As discussed previously in the second post that various government schemes and initiatives that are being in practice for this community. As against awareness not only government policies are important, but their implementation by such community is also very important. The same has not been implemented in India properly because of the fact that these community have articulation issues as they are not able to understand the things, which has become prime concern of their ignorance and societal acceptability.
